again and again

The weather just doesn’t surprise me time and time again, you’d think it would. I woke up to this today:

yuck!

It’s honestly what I’ve come to expect from living in Canada. Almost May…who cares, let it be cold and snowy! So, can someone just take me back to here:

I don’t think a trip to Florida is too much to ask!

To warm me up, I had the same oats as yesterday – PB &J! I think I would have enjoyed them a little more if I wasn’t rushing out the door to go to training. The real bummer with that, was someone told me yesterday that training started at 8:30am, but it was actually 9am. I coulda used the extra 30 mins in bed. I was just dead tired sitting there the whole day…NBD!

What did Dementia training entail? Well, you definitely learn a lot about the different diseases, how family copes with it and how to work with them. It’s pretty interesting and also very scary at the same time. It really put in perspective what they’re going through and hopefully I can apply that to my job in a manner that serves them better.

Even though it’s a disease they have no control over, they aren’t stupid, and that was the message I really got today. Sometimes they just want to feel included or useful. I know I only serve them their meals, but I think even when I interact with them in those 30 mins that I will try my best to just talk to them and get to know them as people!

Training was suppose to finish at 5pm, but we were done by 3:30pm – always a bonus! I love going home early!

I have Easter weekend off (thank you boss!) so I really have to get through chem tomorrow so I can make fun Easter cupcakes with the little sis!

Q: What do you do with your family & friends for Easter?

We’re going to the hubby’s sister’s tomorrow, to eat with his sis, her husband and our niece and nephew and the hubby’s parents are in town, too! Then My fam on Saturday or Sunday…still up in the air!

PS – I’m totally addicted to smoothies. I had another mixed berry smoothie with vanilla protein. Why do they have to taste soooo good?!?

weekend recap

So, it’s Monday and I haven’t blogged all weekend. I suck. I blame the nice weather and going down to Toronto yesterday…what crappy things to be doing instead of blogging, right?

Will a little weekend recap make it better?

Saturday:
9am-1pm: little sis, husband and I watched mine and the hub’s niece and nephew. Jen, my little sis, is in her prime for babysitting and always wants to babysit the niece and nephew, so that’s exactly what happened. Good times. No one got hurt and diapers got changed.

1pm onward: watching the Masters (obviously…I married a golf pro!) and going to friends’ to bbq! No pictures were taken because frankly, I forgot. Totally need someone to be my camera man. Apply below.

Sunday:
Is this legal for Sunday mornings?

To see 7:15am?

It seems only me, the husband (who had just left for work – yes, I know it’s Sunday, but remember, he’s a golf pro and there’s nothing normal about the days/hours they work) and this cutie were up.

This is him beginning to move towards me as I take the picture.

Since I was up, what better thing to do than eat. So, I made it worth it:

Classy ladies take picture of just one waffle pretending that’s all they ate, when they really they made several. Crap! I just gave away the secret.

I knew the afternoon was going to be hectic, so I (naturally) watched some How I Met Your Mother before studying some more chem. I needed the show to ‘warm’ me up…or at least that’s the story I’m going with!

Ok, so fast-forward to the lovely afternoon; sun is shining, weather is finally cooperating and I’m on my way to meet the husband so we can head to Toronto for the Raptors game!

Remember: tickets c/o a member at the course the hubby works at.

There was only one slight dilemma; the game started at 6pm, but the Masters was wrapping up around then, too. So once we made it to the ACC, we went across the street to this humungous sports bar, and watched the ending. I wonder who won…

Oh, right, Charl won. How could I forget with the massive TV overlooking the whole bar! I joke, folks.

Then, it was onto the next sporting event. {Insert husband in guy heaven}.

Our seats were pretty awesome for freebies.

I would post a pic of the hubby and I at the game, but the lighting was terrible!

And that, my friends is how my weekend went. I can’t complain one bit.

Luckily the nice weather didn’t end there, it’s still continued into today. So I gladly ran some errands and wore shoes that didn’t require socks!

Happy Monday!

PS – today I went through the fridge, to see what new items I needed to pick up, and came across this:

Is it normal to have this much cheese in one fridge? I think we might need intervention. Any cheesy recipes? haha

What was your favourite part about the weekend?

ask and you shall receive

Last night was a good night. Despite my hubby leaving for work at 7:30am and not getting home until 11:30pm (I kid you not), it was a good day. I had some lovely surprises – one from the hubby and one from the sister.

You’re probably wondering, what would make for a wonderful surprise?

Well, I kinda love food, so one had to do with that (cue the sister) and the other was sports related (cue the hubby).

You see, my sister has this friend whose mom is a great foodie, let’s call her Bridgitte. I mean, flies-to-Ecuador-to-check-quality-of-cacao-beans-for-her-homemade-chocolate foodie…and that’s exactly what she does; she makes her own raw chocolate and grows sprouts to sell at local health stores and farmer’s markets and that is her business. So naturally 1) I’m happy my sister is friend’s with the girl whose mom does all this and 2) connections (I hope).

I love her raw mint chocolate. It’s heaven. So my sister had a volleyball game yesterday and casually mentioned to Bridgitte (since her daughter plays on the team with my sister) how I love her chocolate and how I wanted to buy some sprouts off of her (because they are heaven, too). So, my sis plays volleyball, and I guess in the mean time, Bridgitte had gone home, and came back with this:

mint mania!

How could I not be ecstatic?! It’s a bag of raw mint chocolate (sorry, again, about the crap quality of picture – husband needed the camera again today). Now, you may think wow that’s really nice of her to give you a full bag of chocolate…there’s more!

She gave me two full bags of chocolate + one of her sealed and ready to sell versions (which I’m hiding from the hubby since he ate a lot of the one I had last time, but if he reads this, then I’m screwed!):

raw goodness

If you want to learn more about her great products, check out her website.

I know you don’t normally pair ‘morals’ and ‘surprises’ together, but here folks, we do things differently. Moral of this surprise: ask and you shall receive. My little sis, asked Bridgitte if I could buy some sprouts off of her, and I got a ton of amazing chocolate in return (thank you little sis!)…because let’s be honest, chocolate trumps sprouts any day!

Now onto the sports section. Remember how the hubby and I went to the baseball game last weekend…well this is a lead into the next surprise I encountered last night.

After not seeing the hubby for what felt like 3 days, he finally called me last night on his way home from work (which was at about 10:45 pm), when I was snug in bed, with sugarplums dancing around in my head. The conversation went a little something like this:

Hubby: Hey babe, I have some good news.

Me: What? That you don’t have to go into work as early tomorrow morning.

H: Ha! I wish. One of the member’s gave me tickets to the Raptors game on Sunday.

M: Yippeee!

Ok, so I didn’t really say yippee, but I definitely was happy that we got another pair of free sporting tickets!! The Raptors take on the Nets on Sunday, and I will be there, with my hubby, having a grand ol’ time!

Aren’t surprises fun?? 🙂

What’s the last surprise you encountered?
