the things that go out the window during exams

I now understand why people go anywhere but their own house to study or else they’d end up eating everything in sight…which I’m currently doing. Can someone PLEASE remove the bag of tortilla chips from my tight grip?! Them + salsa is just so addicting, though! Wait, I take that back…just leave them.

I’ve officially done 3 of 5 exams…we’re past the halfway mark which is HUGE. It feels like it took forever to reach it. All that’s left is an exam tomorrow night and then one the following afternoon – come Wednesday at 4:30pm, I will be a free woman…easy peasy nacho cheesy (<—I totally just thought that up and it sounded pretty funny to me, especially with the nacho reference above…exams getting to my head a little?).

Jokes aside (for now), I find I get too serious during exam period, so to lighten the mood (and myself) a bit during a gloomy time, I decided to do a post about the things that go out the window during exams.

^^my permanent work area.

The Things That Go Out the Window During Exams

1. Personal hygiene – who needs a shower when an extra practice question could be done, or a few more pages could be read of the textbook you neglected all semester.

2. Home-cooked meals – this is mainly a bummer for the husband more than myself. I’m pretty content with my salsa, obviously.

3. Workouts – I’m eating quick meals and neglecting workouts…we won’t even talk about the bum outline forming on my chair that I’m in all day.

4. Sleep – I’ve said it before…

And I’ll keep repeating this. That also might be the copious amount of caffeine from my latte this morning doing the talking. Check back in a couple hours when I crash and ask if that whole philosophy still applies! But if I’m sleeping…don’t wake me.

5. Social interactions – I know a lot of bloggers joke about how awkward they are in person – insert me during exam period. The closest thing I have to human interaction is with Keeping Up With the Kardashians! repeats on TV. I swear Khloe spoke back to me once.

6. Time – It always feels like you have enough time to read that last chapter or do that mock exam, but then you go on Facebook or Twitter for 2 minutes, and you’re faced with the problem that you’re actually late to go and write that exam. So you start sleeping in your car and have an audio version of your textbook playing while you update you status saying how cool it is to try living in your car!

7. Your ability to function daily – sometimes I’m afraid if I talk (to Khloe, of course!) that some of the info I’ve put in there will leak out. This is when you start holding you breath, performing weird rituals to not jinx yourself and start sleeping in the spare bedroom – not by choice, of course. But because you’re afraid that if the husband rolls over onto you that you’ll lose everything you’ve worked so hard to accomplish (read: he put you in the spare bedroom because he thinks you’re crazy).

Those are just a few of the things that start to go while studying for exams.

And, I might be bold enough and say that it’s not just a few things that go, but rather, just about everything, but what fun would it be?! Also, means there’s still room to improve/modify the list.

Question of the day: How do you cope when the demand of things makes time tight?

sans christmas decorations and what to do next year

I don’t feel very festive…let’s just get that out there. The closest thing I have to even being a Christmas decoration is a wicker wreath in the shape of a star. I’m not kidding, look…

But, you can hardly consider even this a Christmas specific decoration because I love stars, so they stay all year long, AND it’s sitting in the corner of the spare bedroom…behind the door. #lifeandchristmasfail

I’m not the Grinch though, I swear! But, while we’re on that topic…does anyone know when it airs on TV? I may not be the Grinch, but the movie is awesome.

I just can’t justify putting decorations up when we won’t even be here on Christmas to enjoy them. Seems counterproductive, don’t you think?

Which is why I vow to decorate next year instead. It may sound crazy to be thinking about decorating next year, when this year hasn’t even finished, but this is why I’m rightfully a type A – I like to plan things.

Let’s start with a Christmas tree.

[source]

I’ll probably just opt for a fake one. It’ll lessen the chance of any squirrels residing in there ;)! And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, then you have not watched one of the funniest Christmas movies, ever (and yes, the husband and I have already watched it).

I also want to do some sort of advent calendar. I don’t know about you, but I automatically think of the calendars that come with the horrible little chocolates, yet, we still got them every year. I’d like to go a step above this (which isn’t that hard to do) and create my own. Insert Mrs. Martha Stewart wannabe…

I saw this idea (via Pinterest) with the little stockings as the advent – brilliant! I’d probably put the good advents in my sock stockings…sorry a year in advance hubby!

Also, lights.

[source]

I never thought I’d be a light lover, but I am. Maybe I’m loving lights more because I don’t have any, but I drove by some tonight that I absolutely loved. I asked the husband if he’d go for a walk with me one night to stealthly takes pics of them. I posted the pic above because they are closest to what the lights looked like – but outside, of course. Twine on the brick with lights in the shape of stars. When I do post the pic, I bet it’ll be nothing like you picture. Either way, super cool and rustic, which seems to be what my style has evolved to.

Since I’m not decorating this year, I think that’s a solid start for next year. And now I have a year to work on it (read: leave it to the last minute).

*****

Please ignore my lack of posting. I am currently in the brink of exams. 2 done, with 3 to go. I am hating life, but it will be worth it in the end. But, if someone wouldn’t mind crawling into my brain and putting the information there to save me from actually reading it all, it’d be greatly appreciated!

friday fives

So it’s Friday. I know it means the weekend for everyone else, but more importantly, it means the end of classes this semester, for me! Woohoo! Well, technically my classes finished yesterday, so it’s an extra-extra long weekend for me, but you get the point ;). We’re all excited for the weekend.

Friday also means another thing – a little while back I decided to follow some other lovely ladies and drop a bunch of f-bomb: fave, friday, five…gotcha! And since these Friday’s keep rollin’ around like they just happened yesterday, I decided to do another Friday focused post.

This time it’s just ‘Friday Fives’ – the stuff I’ve tried and the stuff I’m about to try…and stuff that maybe you’ll try too!

1. Garden Fresh Salsa – Medium (and if they had ‘hot’ you know I’d be all over it)
Ok, so I have tried and enjoyed this salsa before, but it’s been a long time since we’ve enjoyed it. Right now it’s on sale for 1/2 off and that’s a big deal because it’s expensive for the good salsa! If you’d like the know the answer to how much I’ve already eaten within the day of purchase, then the correct answer is exactly like the price…1/2.

2. Tyrrell’s Chips – Sweet Chili & Red Pepper
These are brand new to my health food store, and although I’m not a chip junkie, someone else that I live with is! I thought this flavour sounded the most appealing! They had other veggie chips, but this one spoke to me. Now to see if it speaks to the husband, as well 😉

3. Mary’s Organic Crackers – Herb Flavour
Sales are a great, great thing. Because of a sale, I bought these. Had there been no sale, then perhaps these would have never been sampled and loved. I’ve only tried this flavour, but there were about 3 others at the store. All I know is that they’re great for snacking and if you ask my opinion, putting a little dobble of hummus on top (spicy hummus to be exact) is divine.

4. Crofter’s Superfruit Spread – Asia
I am pretty much a toast junkie right now (the toast and chip junkie lived happily ever after in their carb overload castle), and my toppings of choice are PB and J. There’s never not a spare jar of a jam sitting in the cupboard waiting for it’s refrigerated friend to be used. Enter this jam. It intrigued me with it’s “raspberries and yumberries blended with Morello cherries and red grapes” shpeal, that I had to get it.

BUT, it’s alright. It’s no plain ol’ raspberry jam, which is still my favourite to this day (don’t even think about showing up with strawberry jam in this house). The flavour almost has a cranberry characteristic and it’s chunky…like, too chunky. I’ll use it, but just know that there is a perfectly good jar of raspberry jam in my cupboard that is dying to be opened. Soon my friend, very soon.

And finally…

5. Celestial Holiday Tea – Gingerbread Spice
It was Kate who made me want to try this ever since she talked about it! With the lag time in Canada, I finally found these holiday teas…only a few weeks after first hearing about them 😛

This flavour’s alright. I still haven’t entirely gotten a feel for if I really like it or just kind of like it yet, only solution is to drink more tea! I will note though, that it is a nice change from my other ‘fruity’ flavours.

Question of the day:
What are some foods/drinks you’re loving right now? Any worth sharing? 🙂
